May 2021: Monthly Wrap-Up

Happy Pride, everyone! 🌈 Whether you’re queer or not, out or not, I hope you have a wonderful June!

I’m honestly still wrapping my head around the fact May is over… It’s kind of a funny time in my life, and I guess the days just sort of blur together a little. I’m in the midst of writing my thesis – I defend at the end of the summer – and I’m in the odd place where I can’t help fretting about the future but also feeling like all my responsibilities are a ways off? It’s been a bit of an adjustment getting used to it, but I’ve mostly got a routine as of now.

And I’m excited for the month of June! Even though I won’t be going out and doing a lot what with Covid restrictions and thesis writing, it’s still just nice to even have the sun staying out for a few extra hours -perfect for late-night ice cream runs and reading outside. ☀️

I also got more into blogging again this month, and blog hopping! And let me tell you… it’s so scary? I kind of forgot how much commenting on other people’s blog posts makes me anxious. 😳 I just worry I’ll say something stupid or that I’m annoying people. But then I try to remind myself how much *I* enjoy getting comments on my post, and try to push through that fear. 😅

Books Read:

I read 13 books this month! 🎉 (I’ll be trying something new this month and giving a little blurb about all the books I read instead of just a star rating. Let me know what you think!)

What If It’s Us by Adam Silvera and Becky Albertalli | It was okay, good even, but honestly I expected more from these two authors.

Fat Chance, Charlie Vega by Crystal Maldonado | I love me a coming of age story, and if you do too, you should definitely check out this novel!

Watch Over Me by Nina LaCour | Hauntingly emotional, Nina LaCour owns my soul.

Catch Lili Too by Sophie Whittemore | Not my cup of tea, but could be enjoyed by fans of Buffy and the like. Review to come!

Honey Girl by Morgan Rogers | A new favourite. Check out my review here.

Vulnerable AF by Tarriona “Tank” Ball | Some poems in the collection really worked for me, and some not so much. Review to come!

The Girls Are All So Nice Here by Laurie Elizabeth Flynn | What a dark, compulsive read. Review to come!

The Ivies by Alexa Donne | An enjoyable read with really great social commentary. Check out my review here.

You Love Me by Caroline Kepnes | Boring, flat, and the twist at the end really didn’t work for me. I do wonder how the TV show will adapt it.

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo | Just a typical YA fantasy novel, honestly. Check out my book vs. TV comparison here.

Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo | Nikolai was an improvement… Mal most certainly was not. This book was fine, but a little forgettable. 🙈

Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo | A really great concept for the finale, but the delivery fell somewhat flat. I am excited to see how the TV show adapts it, if it ever gets that far.

Women Don’t Owe You Pretty by Florence Given | An introductory to feminism, great for younger readers just getting into the movement. Check out my review here.

  1. Ooo love the wrap up! I also adore the blurb idea, it allows the readers to know why you rated something a certain way, so I personally love it! Totally agree with What If It’s Us. I def expected more from those two. I found the book to be a bit too cheesy too lol. Have a fabulous June!!

    1. Thanks! Haha, it is a little cray – I had a relaxing month, so there was lots of down time to read! Any number of books in a month is great though. As long as you’re having a good time reading that’s all that matters! ☺️
