July & August 2021: Monthly Wrap-Up & Blog Rebranding!

Hello, world! 🌎

Long time no see! The past two months have been… kind of silent over here on my blog. The main reason for that being that I was up to my neck in ~master’s thesis~ writing, editing, and presenting… and, well, didn’t really have time for much else. That being said, I am OFFICIALLY done school, ✨FOREVER!!! ✨

(I could not be more overjoyed about it.) Don’t get me wrong, I love learning. (It’s one of the reasons I love reading so much!) But the grad school work-your-butt-off-until-it-literally-falls-off culture? I could do without.

But it’s actually, totally ~fine~ because I’m DONE! I’m working now, which is crazy, but true. At my dream job no less and I’m loving it. So, I’m in a really good place right now.

… And that’s literally all I’ve been up to for the past two months. But now that I’ve put my master’s thesis (successfully defended!), and grad school (convocation withstanding, but whatever) behind me, I’m ready to jump back into the literary world with both feet! 🤸‍♀️

(Side note: how is there no diving/diver emoji yet? I expected more, smh.)

ALSO I don’t know if you noticed (or if you did and are very confused by who is even writing this post right now) BUUUT I completely rebranded my blog! Goodbye, The Inharmonious Heroine – hello, Literary Liza! ✨

Yes, that’s right. It’s part of the reason it took me so long to start posting again after the summer – I’ve been working on a complete brand overhaul! I did really like my old blog name/design, but it was long, hard to spell, and NO ONE in my real life could pronounce ‘heroine’ correctly, and I just felt like I needed a change. I wanted something more snappy and personal (i.e., the alliteration and my name in the actual title), and a blog that was way more colourful!

I also wanted it to feel super cosy and inviting? Reading is such a comfort for me, and I wanted my blog design to reflect that!

All this to say it’s still me – the inharmonious heroine – behind the screen. I just had a makeover. I hope you like it. 🙈

Finally, it’s been a really long time since I posted, so here’s to hoping someone – anyone!? – is still here reading my blog… And I really hope each and every one of you is doing well too. ❤️ I’ve really missed you guys.

Books Read:

I somehow managed to read 8 books over the past two months – I have no clue how! Still nowhere near any closer towards shrinking that TBR, but alas. 😅

Bruised by Tanya Boteju | This one was pretty good, though different than I expected. Review to come!

She’s Too Pretty to Burn by Wendy Heard | A summer-filled thriller – super unique and immersive! Review to come.

Cool for the Summer by Dahlia Adler | The summer loving sapphic romance of my dreams. Highly recommend!

Baptism of Fire by Andrzej Sapokowski | Another solid instalment in The Witcher series. I particularly enjoyed the inclusion of Milva’s character.

The Picture of Dorian Gray | A classic that I felt like I had to final get around to reading after finishing She’s Too Pretty to Burn (which was inspired by it).

The Road Trip by Beth O’Leary | Such a sweet rom-com. Exactly as one would expect from Beth O’Leary. Review to come!

Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter | This book really surprised me. It was definitely an interesting premise, and the author is a skilled writer.

Blonde Hair, Blue Eyes by Karin Slaughter | This short prequel story wasn’t really necessary, but again, skillfully written and engaging nonetheless.

The Month in Book Reviews:

Did you have a good summer?

Do you have anything fun planned for the fall?

Let me know!
